Unix Utilities

Introduction:
This is a little textbook on UNIX utilities. The problems are very simple applications of some of the more obscure utilities that are still useful. For instance the commands: sort, join, awk, paste, and tr are exercised while working these problems. You will find a few that I had time to work here.

Chapter 1:
• Input "file1"
  
• Input "file2"
  
• prob_1.sh (an example using join)
  
• prob_2.sh (another example using join)
  
• prob_3.sh (a very simple sed script)
  
• prob_4.sh (a very simple awk script to sum the numbers in column 2 of file1)
  
• prob_5.sh (a nice trick using paste to stack lines of text next to each other)
  
• prob_6.sh (count the number of tab characters in file1)
  
• prob_7.sh (combine file1 and file2 in a specified way)
  
• prob_9.sh (reversing the lines in a file)
